Standing on the terrace of Stuurboord Hangar 26 with view over the river Scheldt on a bright, sunny day, who could wish for a better starting place of the second B.D.M. Marine Insurance Seminar 2012!
At this unique venue we were welcomed by Jos Gielen, CEO of B.D.M, who spoke about the current strategy of B.D.M. and the growth it has experienced since the last seminar.
Our four speakers of the day were announced by Wilfried Van Gompel, one of our marine directors. Considering the variety of topics, there was definitely something for everyone. Whether it concerned the threat of the euro crisis (by Johan Van Overtveldt), the – maybe more adventurous – management of a piracy-case (by Hans Slaman), the climate change (by Luc Debontridder) or the aspects of salvage (by Joanna Waterfall), all four presentations succeeded in capturing the attention of the participants.
After having attended the lectures, we were invited to go outside for a guided tour of the surrounding area. We discovered Het Eilandje, a former typical port area, that the city wants to convert into a dynamic neighborhood and where the MAS building stands as a central eye-catcher. The sun contributed greatly to our viewing pleasure!
Once inside the MAS building, we got an incredible view of the city. This not only appealed to people – like myself – who are not from Antwerp, but also to those who know the city well.
We ended the day as we had started it: on a terrace with an amazing view and a drink. The walking dinner in the MAS gave the numerous attendees the opportunity to socialize and network. For some of us, until late in the evening…
I believe we can say that our second edition was a great success and I – amongst many others – am already looking forward to our third edition on March 20th, 2014!
